So Much Pressure – Let’s Dance It Out

Welcome, welcome, welcome! It has been a busy we—no, no, wait. That’s John Oliver’s bit. It has been a busy week for me, though. I made my annual trek up to FanX Salt Lake. It’s a 12-hour drive for me, but I go through some truly beautiful parts of the desert and I enjoy it.

This site is officially launching today, September 28, 2024. I am still working on providing content to my website designer, the fabulous Valentine Barker, so any missing content is 100% on me, not him.

I agonized about what to make this first post about. It’s the first blog post, it should be something special, right? But the more pressure I put on myself, the more ideas I came up with, drafted, and then discarded, the more I realized I don’t want to put that much pressure on myself. So, I danced it out and decided to just sit down and do what I do best – write.

I type this as I sit waiting for a panel to start – I have my laptop because I am presenting a panel later, I don’t usually lug it around throughout an entire show. I am a special kind of weird and crazy, but not the kind that enjoys carrying things I don’t have to (and whoo boy, wouldn’t my therapist be so proud to read that?). And I know I have an “About” section, but for the near future, this is probably the first thing you’ll see when you land on the website, so I thought maybe I should just take this moment to introduce myself.

Hi. I’m Lyssa.

You may have come here because you saw me present a panel at a convention, or we made friends in line at a convention, or because we started talking after a panel or at a vendor table, or because I was in the hotel restaurant watching football and you liked the way I snarked at the refs. I’m glad you’re here. I’m always glad all of you are here.

So let’s see…I am a writer, I am queer (asexual biromantic to be precise), I have a degree in classics, I am an avid comics reader, I love movie scores and soundtracks (yes, they are two different things), a fan of many fandoms (Ask Me About My Fandoms), I own a truly ridiculous amount of books, and if I am ever going to get to all the books on my TBR list, I am just going to have to live forever.

Anyway, however you found your way here, welcome. Feel free to check out the overviews of panels I’ve presented over on the “Where You’ve Seen Me and Where I’m Going” page and to ask questions over at “Contact”. I am going to try to get a blogpost up once a week but definitely no less than once a month and I promise to get content finished for the currently empty sections of the site soon. I think I am going to start the regular blogposts by fleshing out sections of the panels I’ve presented, so if something hit you but you didn’t want to ask in public, or if something caught your eye while reading the overviews here on the website, please send me a message and let me know what you’d like me to expound upon. As anyone who knows me (or has talked to me for more than 5 minutes) will tell you, if you ask about something I love I will be happy to shout about it.

So, take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, dance it out, and then keep reading…I think you’ll like it here.
