First and foremost, Lyssa Holm is a queer writer who endeavors to make this website and the
other spaces around her queer safe and queer friendly. Additionally, this site is going to be about
things she loves and bringing joy – positivity as a core value.
Lyssa is wildly uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person, because usually when she
does so, she is making fun of someone or has been in the sun too long. Being in the sun too long
is a tricky indicator, as she lives in the desert. Yes, on purpose.
Her degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies, which mainly means her neurospiciness manifested in
trying to focus on more than two majors. One of the (3) focus areas of her degree was Classics,
as mythology and storytelling have been life-long passions (her dad gave her Edith Hamilton’s
Mythology when she was 8 and she never looked back – please don’t give your 8-year-old Edith
Hamilton’s Mythology unless you want to explain a lot of mature topics and words). Lyssa will
go off on a mythology tangent at the drop of a hat or even just slightly mishearing a word and
thinking you said the name of someone from mythology.
You will be hard-pressed to find her without a writing utensil and notebook on her person, and
she has been known to write spicy porn featuring dudebros who annoy her while she is sitting at
the bar watching football and eating her body weight in hot wings.
She has finished her first novel, an urban fantasy about the things that go bump in the night and
is working up the mental fortitude to begin the process known as query hell. In the meantime,
she is working on a series of Greek myth retellings from a decidedly queer perspective –
seriously, the one she thought would be straight turned out to have surprise bisexuality. When
she is not working on her original writing, she is an avid consumer of fanfic and sometimes
writes fanfic for pairings that grab her by the throat and will. Not. Shut. Up. (Looking at you,
Dreamling.)
In her time away from The Job That Pays the Bills that is not spent on writing fiction, she writes
panels to present at comic cons (chances are, if you are here, you saw her at a con and have
decided maybe you want to hear more of what she has to say – THANK YOU!). She has
presented on an array of topics, including comics, mythology, and LGBTQIA+ representation in
both. She is designing other panels to pitch to upcoming comic cons.
Lyssa is also an avid reader, including a life-long love of science fiction, horror, and comics.
During the pandemic that began in 2020, she started reading a lot more nonfiction, as she had a
hard time consuming media that she didn’t know ahead of time how it ended. The nonfiction
reading has continued, as well as more fiction in multiple genres. She has also dived back into
comics reading (mostly X-Men or literally anything Leah Williams or Kieron Gillen write) and,
again, will go off on a tangent at the drop of a hat.
Finally, and most importantly, Lyssa is the proud fur-momma of Nymeria (NoNo NyNy) and
Andromache (Drama Cat), two rescue kittens of differing levels of mischief. She calls them
kittens, but they are six and four, respectively. But, in the way of all cats, still babies.
